Be Mine
Published in Paperback by Dell Books (July, 1997)
Average review score:

Emma and Sam are Wonderful!Emma is the oldest of two daughters and has to marry first. The only problem is that she is to wed big dumb Gilbert. Sam comes back to his fathers house to confront him for the hell he put Sam thru after avenging the murder of his wife and Sams mother. Sam hires Emma to take care of things and run the household after he feels bad for his father and sees exactly what kind of situation he is in. His health and his farm are going down the drain. Emma is a ship it up and shape it out kinda gal and thoroughly revamps the house and steals Sam's heart. You'll love the action between Sam and Emma and how they come together as business partners and soul mates. Be sure to catch the part where Emma gives herself to Sam in the "marriage act" even though Sam, coming into the dark room, thinks she is a prostitute at a brothel. It will make you shimmy and shake with laughter and compassion for the both of them. A wonderful book that I really fell in love with.
Funny, sweet, romanticThis was a really enjoyable book. Emma's sweetness and naiveté made me laugh. It was sweet, not corny. There was a lot that I liked in this book.

Beyond Church Growth
Published in Paperback by Fleming H Revell Co (December, 1989)
Average review score:

Insightful book from the trenches of church growthIt is Logan's thesis that church growth is much more than an increase in attendance rather, it is measured by the ministry of the church, it's impact on the surrounding community and it's ability to reproduced daughter churches. In this excellent book, Logan gives us ten key principles that are necessary to develop a dynamic, growing church and specific action plans to help implement this task.
After nearly failing in his own church planning efforts and being unable to find any written resources to tell him how to plant and grow a church, Logan vowed that if he ever succeeded he would write this book.
There are three chapters that stand head and shoulders above the rest. The first is on pastoral leadership. Using a sport's team motif, he lays out step-by-step what a pastor must do to build a winning team. Second, is the chapter on worship in which he states that worship must be modeled by the staff (no matter how uncomfortable one feels) until the congregation catches the vision. Finally, the chapter on disciple making remained me of this valuable need.
A Comprehensive Guide For Developing A Dynamic ChurchRobert Logan has written a comprehensive guide to developing a dynamic church for the end of the Twentieth Century. When I first read the book in 1991, it had a positive influence on me and on the direction of my church. Looking back through the book I realize that I would have been more effective in my past decade of ministry if I had regularly used Logan's book as my reference guide. Beyond Church Growth contains ten key principles: The value of faith and prayer, becoming an effective pastoral leader, developing a culturally relevant philosophy of ministry, holistic disciple making, expanding a network of cell groups, developing and equipping leaders, mobilizing believer's according to spiritual gifts, appropriate and productive programming, and starting churches that reproduce. Some of the trends and current realities have changed but Beyond Church Growth is still an excellent resource for church leaders desiring to build prevailing churches.
Tremendous Mentor in the Church Planting MovementDr. Robert Logan brings us a much needed balanced perspective in church growth. Dr. Logan always provides us vital direction as a true mentor in the church planting movement. Thanks Bob.
